DUO Clinic

An aesthetics clinic, based in the heart of Leigh-on-Sea. The space will be an additional clinic to an existing one and branding was already established so there was a colour scheme the client wanted to lean into. This was a new build that had already started construction at the time of consultation so we had to work to a tight deadline and work with the dimensions and room layout that was created.

Floor-plans: These were provided by the builder, as this was a new build that had already started construction at the time of consultation for design service.

Layout Option 1: Incorporating the clients request for a coffee station, only one person working at reception there was enough space to have both with the idea to have a divider between the desk & coffee station to zone the space. There was a cavity in the wall for plumbing so we could recess the shelving into the wall instead of using space on the floor, to display products. Sofa and table would be resting against the window to make use of the long wall.

Layout Option 2: Creating a longer reception desk for more than one person, as the business grows. Utilising the space behind the desks and in the walls to create shallow shelves for product display. Coffee station placed on left, but did advice this may block the walk way and needed to confirm where radiators are being placed. Mirror to bounce the light and space for patients to check out post treatment.

Market research & Design Ideas

My client wanted to go ahead with the layout shown in first floor plan with the coffee station, seating area and product display. I presented face to face the market research and ideas to my client, including some designs of coffee station unit and visuals to aid conversation of options available within budget.

Final visual for the confirmed choices presented to my client, showing how the organic shapes, colour palette and furniture would come together. Replicating the soft curves and edges so the space flowed and the pieces spoke to each other. Colour palette kept neutral to feel organic and minimalist, for a clean feel which was key.

Furniture Design

During the build there was a miscommunication between my client and the builder and the product display which had been planned and signed off to recess into the wall, was now protruding instead - taking up 300mm that we had not accounted for with furniture. The sofa we had original signed off no longer would fit.

Being solution driven, I came up with the idea of using the ledge of the window that was already protruding and extending this, meaning we could cover that up and also utilise it. Along side the carpenter who was busy making the reception desk, we came up with the furniture design of the window seat adding the fluting to match the reception desk and I spoke to one of my upholstery contacts, who could help make the padded upholstered seat top with the lip to avoid people banging feet against the fluted edge and for comfort.

It actually ended up being one of the best features of the space and provided more space for clients.
